Consumer Protection

Massachusetts has some of the strongest consumer protection laws in America. The Massachusetts Consumer Protection Act, under Chapter 93a, is likely the most referenced statute in Massachusetts civil litigation. The law offers strong remedies to claimants, including attorney fees and the possibility of treble (3x) damages if the case is successful. Both businesses and consumers can file a lawsuit under the Consumer Protection Act. These features have made the Consumer Protection Act a very useful tool for plaintiffs in both consumer and commercial disputes.

Under Chapter 93a - Unfair methods of competition and unfair or deceptive acts or practices in the conduct of any trade or commerce are hereby declared unlawful.

What does this mean? Look at it this way: If you give a company money for a product or service, you should get what you pay for. PERIOD!!

On a number of occasions companies will take your money and then not deliver what they promised. This is where the Consumer Protection Act comes into play.
